I went to the local Pic-A-Part and pulled an 8.8 3:73 limited slip differential out of a 1999 Ford Explorer. I have to shorten the driver side axle tube and use a shorter axle to make it fit in the Mustang. These rear ends are nearly as strong as a 9″ and it is easy to get parts for them. Explorer rear ends have stronger 31 spline axles, and 1995-2001 axles have disk brakes. As you can see, this is a BIG upgrade from the 7-1/4″ 4 lug rear end.
